A note from the Co-Chairs... Dear BMS Families, Thank you to all BMS teachers, staff, and parents who volunteered their time or donations for the school wide Ice skating trip! As a reminder, for March 14th parent-teacher conferences, there will be no school for BMS students. We hope you all had a fantastic winter break and are feeling recharged for the weeks ahead! It’s time to dive back in, and we’re looking forward to an exciting second half of the school year. As always, thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! Fatma Ghailan and Henney Zavyalov Middle School PTA Co-Chairs middleschool@briarcliffpta.org |

| February 9th-15th was Children of Addiction (COA) Awareness week. The Bear2Bear club organized a school-wide joke contest in honor of COA Awareness week. Humor is a way to relieve stress, lift spirits, and feel connected with others, which may be difficult for children who have a parent who is dependent on alcohol or drugs. The jokes were narrowed down and then were anonymously voted on by the teachers. Here are the winners: 6th grade: What’s the difference between a teacher and a train? A teacher says, “Spit out your gum!” and a train says, “Chew chew!” 7th grade: I once had a job smashing cans. It was soda pressing. 8th grade: What do you call a teacher who never farts in public? A private tutor! Fact Of The Week: 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 are affected by a parent with a substance use disorder. (nacoa.org) Trivia Question Of The Week: This famous actor had struggled with addiction for 20+ years and was first introduced to marijuana at the age of 6 by his dad, who also battled a substance use disorder. He is now in recovery and is most famous for playing Iron Man. Who is this actor? Last Week’s Trivia Answer: Football is the most bet on sport. For confidential consultation, more information, or if you want your child to join Bear2Bear, a peer leadership club at BMS, please contact: Alexa White, MHC Awhite@briarcliffschools.org 914-488-8649 Helping students to remain substance free, enhance wellbeing, and make healthy decisions. |
