March is Gambling Awareness Month. Gambling is risking something of value in an event with an uncertain outcome. The NYS age to gamble is 18 years old. Teens are more vulnerable to gambling addiction due to the fact that their brains are still developing.
Here are some different forms of gambling to be aware of:
- Lottery tickets or scratch off cards
- March Madness brackets
- Football pools
- Fantasy sports teams
- Sports/horse betting
- Online betting
- Poker/card/dice games
- Online casino games
- Loot boxes
While some of these activities may appear innocent, it’s important to talk to your kids about what gambling is and how it can turn into an issue.
